First on-record reference to drank?

I'm trying to pinpoint when exactly codeine made its debut in Houston rap. Anybody know? Early Screw tapes like 1991's "roll 1 smoke 2" are missing references to syrup and I'm wondering if there's a clear starting point.

i wouldn't exactly know

rapgenius says it was first used as early as 1988.

lean was around way before that though, houston just associated it with their rap culture

I think Botany Boyz were the first to use it on an album title

i'd be surprised that there was a mention before the screw tapes, when they called it barre

Great question. I'd like to know, too. Gives me an excuse to go back and try to listen chronologically.

Screw and the SUC didn't start referencing drank until the mid 90s. Reading interviews from various members, they didn't start sipping while making tapes until later on. They used to get throwed off weed, beer, fry and whatever else according to Will Lean. I think 94 or 95 they started making the drank references on Screw tapes.
